Show and Tell- My Weekend

Good Monday Morning Readers,
How as your weekend?

I found this simple tutorial and made an incognito stamp out of an eraser that I had lying around...

Then I went thrifting and picked up this really happy straw purse!
I was thrilled because I feel in love with a $175 one at the mall and I got this one for 5 bucks!
It pays to shop around.

I think I might give it a new lining. Other than that...this is exactly what I was looking for.

Oh yeah,
and I also found an old-school straw hat.

Fresh Look

Hey Yall,
I JUST finished giving the Miss Yellow Shoes blog a little face-lift (tehee...I just typed 'facelip')!
I didn't do any major changes, just wanted to do a little bit of spring cleaning.
There may be a few tweaks here and there over the next few days, but overall I am very happy with the result.

The older blog was too chaotic and cluttered (kinda like my cork board). This new look should help you readers get where you want to go quicker than ever before!
No more searching through the sidebar for that printable! No more scrolling past picture after picture just to get to my twitter link!
Everything is nicely organized in it's own little category.

Proud of me?
Yes?

Wedding Dates?

Tumblr_lkg0gno72w1qiqbemo1_500_large

Last Friday, Mike received the call we both have been waiting for.
After applying to over 200 high-schools, and an agonizing wait, Mike was offered a teaching and coaching job in South Carolina!
This means two very exciting things.
1. Mike can start his teaching career right out of college
2. We can now set a wedding date
Since I will be in school for another year, Mike and I have decided that it would be best to wait until the summer of 2012 to tie the knot.
July is looking very nice...
I am so proud of my fiancée and I know that he will do an amazing job teaching History.

I will be sure to keep you all up to date on our new life plans and wedding projects.
Even though its a year away, the excitement is building!

Places I want to visit: France

On my list of places to visit, France is in the top five.
I want to walk down an old French street and smell freshly baked bread.
I want to eat  a real croissant in a real French bistro with my cafe au lait.
I want to get my picture taken by the "Tour Eiffel'!

Tumblr_ljnu7fhori1qb6f1po1_500_large

Yeah, I wanna be in the girl in that picture.

Tumblr_ljmjz2rfud1qhxssno1_500_large

Did you know...

- At one point in time, France made it illegal to sell faceless dolls?
- France is the most popular tourist destination in the world?
- The Phamtom of the Opera was written in France during the 18th century?
- France has earned the most Nobel prizes for excellent literature?
- France was second to America in using electricity?

Fun Fact- Gustave Eiffel not only built "Le Tour Eiffel", but also the Statue of Lady Liberty. He modeled her face to look like his mother.

Click the images to enlarge and print out your own Eiffel Tower!

So if anyone needs a French interpreter or tour guide...give me a call!
Have a Happy Monday

Let's visit the sugar shack!

I don't know about where you come from, but here in Quebec spring is all about the sugar shack.
It's a place where friends and family get together to eat a maple syrup inspired brunch.
From your great grandma to little 2 year old johnny, the "Caban a Sucre" has something sweet for everyone.

I wanted to share some sweet tooth highlights with you!

This was my little "brunch date" since Mike is back at school.
We even shared our bread with each other.

So we always start off with pea soup and bread...

Then move on to ham (with syrup), hot dogs (with syrup), eggs (with syrup), and so much more sweetness!

Before we end our meal with sugar pie or pudding au chaumar the servers bring out these crispy "pancakes".

Of course syrup is drizzled on top...what else would you expect?

The texture of these pancakes is hard to describe.
They are crispy and soft at the same time.
Does that make sense?

Coffee and sugar are served throughout the brunch.

Milk and sugar are a MUST in my coffee cup!

Once the plates are cleared and our tummies are filled, you can either enjoy a stroll through the woods or ride in a horse drawn carriage.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone

Random Facts

So I've noticed that a lot of the blogs I follow are doing this random fact thing so I jumped on the band wagon.

1. Mike was my first and only boyfriend.

2. I have two strange fears.
a. I'm always scared that somebody is hiding in my shower so I always check before completing my visit to the restroom.
b. I have this fear that the sales lady will forget that I'm in the dressing room and will unlock the door. My solution is to bang the hangers around, keep my feet visible, and cough occasionally.

3. Sometimes when I can't fall asleep I turn around so my head is where my feet usually are.

4. When I was a little girl, I used to believe that evil gnomes were following me everywhere.

5. When I'm alone in the car...I make "vroom vroom" sounds.

6. I look almost exactly like my grandmother did at my age.

7. When I go shopping, I keep my wallet in my purse but my credit cards in my pocket. That way if some jerk runs off with my bag, it's not too terrible.

8. I actually own only one pair of yellow shoes.

Chop Chop?

As I've shared before, my hair is at that awkward stage where I can't really do anything with it.
It's like a battle that I can't really win.
I want my hair long so I can braid it and have it hanging lazily over my shoulder; but some mornings I just feel like giving in and chopping the whole thing off.
Yes Mike, I can hear you screaming "no!"

Lately I've just been either letting it hang there and hope for a good hair day or throwing it up in a mess on top of my head.
Out of sight out of mind right?

I keep picturing myself walking down the isle towards Mike with my white gown, flowers, and loose curls.
In the end, I know all the frustration will be worth it.

Right?

Don't fall off the balancing beam

So lately I've been thinking about how my life is packed full of stuff and wondering how I'm balancing it all.

I have a job
I have school
I have a fiancée
I have a wedding to plan
I have my crocheting
I have my doodling
I have my photography
I have a blog

I could go on, but I wont.
I find that I tend to lean on one thing from week to week.
One week I'll be crocheting up a storm, next I'll be going through a library of wedding magazines and trying on dresses.
How should I handle all this, I ask myself...
Is it OK to throw myself into one thing at a time? Or should I do a little of everything every day?
I always make time for Mike (love you) and the blog, but what about the rest?

Maybe I'm thinking about this too hard...

Maybe I should just keep doing what I've been doing.
Make time for the important things such as Mike, work, and the blog and let everything else come and go like the seasons.

I'll crochet when my fingers start craving to hold the hook.
I'll doodle when I feel inspired and need to get thoughts on paper.
I'll work on wedding plans when I get in the "giddy bride" mood.

I'm not too sure how to end this...so let's throw in a quote!

"Laugh as much as you breathe and love as long as you live"
-unknown

Before I get stuck with a walker...

Before I turn into an old lady, there are some adventures that I want to have.

I want to visit Paris and get my picture taken in front of the Eiffel Tower. I want to eat at a real French restaurant, not one for tourists. I want to shop in a French boutique and walk out with a treasure of some sort. I want to visit the Louvre and see famous artwork.

I want to create a cute home for Mike and I. I want to browse the internet and magazines for just the right decor. I want to spend my weekends painting walls with my sweetheart. I want to decorate a baby room and buy a wooden rocking chair to go in the corner. I want to have a cozy craft room where I can get crazy, but have a soft carpet so the kids can be with me.

I want to scuba dive in clear waters and see colorful fish and reefs. I want to feel like I'm flying, but underwater, and I want to spy on a starfish. I want to be able to see things close up like they do on the discovery channel. I want to see my swimming shadow along the sandy bottom of the ocean.

I want to grow a vegetable garden from seeds. I want to serve a meal with my homegrown veggies and share food with my neighbors. I want to work hard, get dirty, and see it all pay off when I pull a giant carrot from the ground.

I want to crochet something awesome. Awesome enough I get published in a craft magazine or even get to be on Martha Stewart! Maybe this one is a little big...but these are just dreams.

Stay tunned for the sequel "After I get stuck with a walker..."

I was totally excited last night when I logged on to my blogger account and saw that I now have 50 followers!

I started the Miss Yellow Shoes blog about a year ago; but it took me quite a while to get the hang of things.
(still learning)
I loved reading blogs about other crafty people and watching them upload videos, tutorials, and pictures.
(never thinking I would ever write my own)
But here I am, about a year later and with 50 regular readers!

I think this is a cause for celebration.
I'll be uploading a giveaway later today so stick around!

And they're off!

Here's before...

And after the cut...

The shortest part of my new bangs come down to my eye so I can still sweep them over. So it might not look terribly different, but just enough so it's easier to handle.

I used to cut my own hair when I was a little girl. Didn't we all?
But I never cut off a chunk; I would always cut away a couple of strands and put them away in my "secret place". Since I cut away so little at a time, it took my mom a long while to actually notice any difference.

I think I might chop my bangs...

So I'm growing my hair out for the wedding (happiness) and it's at this awkward stage where I absolutely hate it!
I can't seem to do anything with it at the moment because it's not long enough for some hairstyles but too long for others.Ugh...it's so frustrating.
All I can think of doing with it is letting it hang there or shoving it into a messy bun. Out of sight, out of mind kinda deal. And as tempting as chopping it would be, I decided to stick it out because I know it will pay off in the end.
But....one thing I have decided to do it shorten by bangs a little. Currently they sit about 2 inches past my chin (can you even call the bangs?) So I'm gonna chop em down to size.

She's Back!

Hello dear readers.
First off, thanks for sticking by me while I needed a little break. It's so encouraging to see that the number of followers didn't diminish while I was away. You're all awesome!
I am feeling better and ready to get back on schedule.

1. I've been working out regularly and eating healthy foods every day
2. I'm now working part time so I can...
3. Take my online course so I can finish my degree before I get married (yay!)
4. Planning my wedding
5. Crocheting all sorts of goodies! (click here)

Today, I got to go to three museums (pictures coming soon) in Montreal and eat at a Mexican restaurant. It was my first meal out in a while and my beef quesadilla was mouth watering good.

I picked up a couple of things from the museums boutique...

These measuring spoons will go perfectly with the measuring cups I got last month!

Sorry, but I can't tell you what's in this box. It's a little present I picked up for my fiancée.
<3
I love you Mike!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everybody!
I absolutely love this day because I get to see everyone walk around wearing my favorite color.
Did you wear green today?????

Did you know...

Every year the Chicago river is dyed green on St.Patty's Day?
The fountain, in front of the white house, flows green water on St.Patrick's Day?
Originally, everyone wore blue on March 17th?
The shamrock was originally worn on St. Patrick's day so represent the Holy Trinity?
One of the longest running St.Patrick Day parade's runs in Montreal? (hey! that's where I live)
St.Patric wasn't Irish...he was born in Britain to Roman parents?
More Irish people live in America than in Ireland?

I tried desperately to follow the instructions in this book and make a shamrock...but alas! I gave up and made my own pattern!

I guess that's all for now. Since I spent the whole day in Montreal, I still have a class to get through before bed.

Once Again, thank you for sticking by me and being the best blog readers eva!
Till Tomorrow...
