Things I'm in love with (part 1)

So while browsing one of my favorite blogs, Miss Indie, I came across this post featuring these sweet book covers!

This got me started and I soon found myself clicking and gawking at these beautiful images of vintage clothes and accessories.
Do you ever find yourself doing that?

I love this vintage lace dress.
I just wish that I had the figure to pull it off.
:-P

I love yellow
and I love elephants.
Who was the genius and put them both together?
I must know!

My feet would be so comfy happy in these loafers.
Perhaps one day I will dedicate an entire blog post to these shoes.
They really are making a comeback in the fashion world.

Lastly,
I love this girl's style.
I love the mustard yellow hat
(I have one of my own)
and I love the color scheme of her whole outfit.
I need to start saving these pictures for inspiration.
Maybe start an inspiration notebook?
Hmm...ideas ideas....

P.S.
This is my hat.

DIY: Bookmarks

Good Morning!
So yesterday I posted this picture of some bookmarks that I made for a friend.

Lucky you!
I'm doing a tutorial on how to turn your very own doodles into pretty little bookmarks.

First, get out your doodle pad or paper and get inspired.
It's ok to draw a design over and over again.
The eraser on the end of that pencil is not the enemy.

Hints:
Be sure that your finished doodle is darkened with a pen or pencil. The lines need to be clear.
Resist the urge to "fill in" parts of your doodle. That's what the next step is for.

Next, snap a photo or scan your doodle and upload it to picnik.com.
Crop the image and play around with the exposure and contrast under the "Edit" tab.
The idea is to make the page as white as possible while making your doodle as dark as possible.

Then go under the "Create" and use the "Doodle" option to color your image.
I strongly suggest coloring in one thing at a time then "applying" the color.

When you're finished coloring with your virtual crayons, you'll have an image looking something like this one.
You can now design your bookmark by pasting this diy clip-art to a white rectangle shape.

Hint:
I always create my bookmark rectangle by opening my image in "paint" and saving as a png.

Upload your "new" image to picnik and add words or stickers to the bookmark.
This is where your style comes together so don't just fly through this step.

All that's left to do now is to print your bookmark!

Hint:
Print your bookmark on stiff paper then glue it to thin cardboard before cutting.
This makes your bookmark last longer and resist tearing.

Speaking of bookmarks...stop on by tomorrow for a special freebie made by yours truly!

Photo Post: Last Week

Good Monday Morning Readers!
Ready to hit the grindstone and get back to work?
...
Yeah, that's how I feel sometimes too.
Maybe I can cheer you up with a photo post?!

I filled my last weekend with oddles and oddles of yarn and crochet time.
I find it to be very therapeutic when I'm stressed out.

I also spent some quality time with my little Charlie. He's so fluffy!
:-)

I find doodling to be just as therapeutic as crocheting is.
Maybe....I'll do a tutorial on these bookmarks I made.
Yes?

Let's see, what else did I do?
Painted my nails about 20 times...
Wrote a Child Psychology Paper
Took a Child Psychology Test
Had old friends over all week,
Went out to dinner with co-workers,
Got shin-splints from my bike workouts,

Yeah, pretty busy week I would say.

I've gotta head off to work now so until tomorrow!!!

Blog Feature

Hello Readers and Happy Sunday!
I'm back from my crazy crazy week with a special blog feature.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you...(drum roll)

Veronika!

Question one: What inspired you to write your first blog entry?
I dabbled in blogging several years ago but I was young and foolish then. After getting into DIY and making my own clothes I met Addie (addie-marie.com), and her wonderful blog inspired me to start my own. My original plan was to have a fashion blog and it eventually developed more into a photography and sewing blog.

Question two: Where do you get your unique clothing ideas?
All over the place. I’m inspired by photographs, images of nature or of times gone by, I make my clothes to suit a season or a feeling. I’m also inspired by current trends, I love to twist them around and make them my own. Not least I’m inspired by fellow fashion bloggers and crafters.

Question Three: What is your favorite creation made by you?
My favourite item so far is my navy circle skirt (pictured above). I was inspired by a leather skirt I saw in Zara and the fabric was the last of a roll of a rough silk. When I was making it I was afraid it looked like a generic school skirt with the sections but after it was done it fit perfectly and it’s very versatile, I wear it all the time!

Question Four: Tell us something we might not know by looking at you.
I’m actually a Chemistry student. In real life I’m a massive science nerd, I don’t spend all that much time creating clothes, I save that for my holidays.

Question Five: Do you always feel 100% confident when walking down the street?
I’d be lying if I said yes. Sometimes I make false judgements about what I feel comfortable in and end up regretting an outfit all day. I tend to get glances for passersby but most often I don’t mind standing out a little, who wants to be one in a crowd anyway?

Question six:  Who is your hero?
This is a difficult question because I don’t base my life around one idol; I merely take inspiration from those that excel in their field. Although, I wouldn’t mind travelling with the doctor...

Thank you Veronika for giving us an interview!
You can find out more about this crafty girl on...
and

See you tomorrow!!!!

8 Little Things

Oh hooray!
You came back!
Craving more little things?

I make vroom vroom noises when I'm driving the car.
Like, the same vroom vroom noises that my daycare kids make when they play with cars.

I always microwave my ice-cream.
I love eating soft ice-cream so 20-25 seconds normally does the trick.

(maybe a little gross)
I like to see how long I can go without shaving my legs.
That's all I'm gonna say...

I love my coffee sweet sweet sweet
but my tea very very bitter.
I'll pour tons of creamer, milk and sugar in my coffee.
But I'll dunk 2-3 bags of tea in a single mug to make the tea as bitter as possible.

So there you go.
Eight little things.
You now know them whether you want to or not.
Muwahahahahaha!

8 Little Things

Because today is the 8th of June...
and because I am so nice...
I will share 8 things you might not know about me.

When I was a little girl, I didn't dream of becoming a ballerina or an artist.
I wanted to be something tough like a firefighter or private in the military.
All that changed once I realized how clumsy and accident prone I am.

I have been on every mode of transportation but a train.
As much as I would love to sit in a rail-car, the thought of scenery flying by my window so fast makes me sea-sick.

I have a different fashion style every day.
I'll be vintage on Monday,
Hippie on Tuesday,
Eccentric on Wednesday,
Cute on Thursday,
"I don't care look" on Friday,
Pajamas on Saturday,
and Sunday best on...um...Sunday!
You could call my closet a large collection of stuff.

I'm OCD about my M&Ms.
They must first be organized by color,
then be arranged into neat little rows,
after all the little m's are facing the same way
then
and only then
will I eat them.

Come back tomorrow for four more little things.

Favorite Blogs

“I believe the term “blog” means more than an online journal. I believe a blog is a conversation. People go to blogs to read AND write, not just consume.”

I love reading Elycia's blog for two reasons.
A. She's not afraid to wear "too-many" colors at the same time
B. She is also planning a DIY wedding

Skunkboy Creatures was the very first blog I ever read.
She was the one who gave me the first speck of inspiration to write my own blog.

I discovered Design by Night through a crafty community called Threadbanger
Since then I've been a fan of her tutorials.

Apple Blue is one of my daily reads because she speaks her mind and has great tutorials and tips for bloggers like you and me.

Honestly, I am a new follower of Donna's December.
But I love all the creativity that I have seen so far.

Gasp!
How did that get in there?
Well...I like my blog too.

:-)

So what are some of your favorite blogs? Do you have one of your own?
Leave a link and I'll drop by for a visit.

Show and Tell- My Weekend

Good Monday Morning Readers,
How as your weekend?

I found this simple tutorial and made an incognito stamp out of an eraser that I had lying around...

Then I went thrifting and picked up this really happy straw purse!
I was thrilled because I feel in love with a $175 one at the mall and I got this one for 5 bucks!
It pays to shop around.

I think I might give it a new lining. Other than that...this is exactly what I was looking for.

Oh yeah,
and I also found an old-school straw hat.

Guest Post- LDC Designs

Hellow Readers,
I have a special treat for you!
Today Miss Yellow Shoes is having its very first guest post by Lindsay, and she's put together a sweet little tutorial for us.
Now wasn't that nice?
Pssst! Let me know if you wanna do a guest post too!

Hey everyone! This is Lindsay from LDC Designs! I am super excited to be doing a guest post for Miss Yellow Shoes. I thought I would show you all how to make this really cute and simple bracelet. All it takes is some leather & lace. Super simple! You can actually buy all that you need at wall-mart!
So lets get started!
First you will need to cut out a piece of lace about a half an inch shorter then your wrist. Then but out two pieces of leather twice the length of your wrist.

Now take one piece of leather and start weaving it through the edge of the lace.

Once you have done that, start doing it to the other side with the other piece of leather.

now tie a knot in both ends of the leather. Make sure you tie them around the size of your wrist, but just a tad bit larger!

Now to tie it on your wrist you will put one knot through the loop before the other knot. Like this...

Once you have it tied so that it fits well, cut off the extra leather after both knots.

And there you have it! A cute leather and lace bracelet in less than ten minutes! Try adding beads to the leather for a different look!

Thanks so much for asking me to guest post, Brittany! Check out my blog for more DIYs ! xo ldc
